Google Pixel 9 Series: Higher Prices and New Colors Await Fans

Google is gearing up to launch the much-anticipated Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro smartphones. However, there is some disappointing news for those eager to upgrade to the latest AI-powered devices: prices are expected to be higher than last year’s models.

According to French news site Dealabs Magazine, the pricing for Google’s upcoming smartphones has been revealed. While the prices are in Euros for the local market, they indicate higher costs for the two main Pixel handsets—the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL.

Pixel 9 Pricing:

• The entry-level 128 GB Pixel 9 is priced at €899, which is €100 more than last year’s Pixel 8 128 GB model.
• The 256 GB version of the Pixel 9 is priced at €999, a slight increase compared to the €859 price tag of the Pixel 8’s equivalent.

Pixel 9 Pro Pricing:

• The 128 GB Pixel 9 Pro remains similar in price to last year’s Pixel 8 Pro at €1,099.
• However, the 256 GB and 512 GB models of the Pixel 9 Pro are priced higher than their 2023 counterparts.

There's a crucial detail to note: Google is releasing three standard Pixel 9 models, along with a fourth foldable variant. The Pixel 9 Pro will feature upgraded specs befitting its Pro label but will retain the smaller form factor of the Pixel 9. Those desiring the Pro specs in a larger size, akin to the Pixel 8 Pro, will need to opt for the Pixel 9 Pro XL, which starts at €1,199. This restores the €100 premium over the Pixel 8 Pro, similar to the premium of the Pixel 9 over the Pixel 8.

Color Options:

• The Pixel 9 will be available in Obsidian, Porcelain, Cosmo, and Mojito.
• Obsidian and Porcelain were also options for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro.
• Cosmo, likely inspired by the rose shade of a cosmopolitan cocktail, and Mojito, expected to have a sharp green hue, add new vibrancy to the lineup.
• The Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL are expected to introduce hazel and pink shades, in addition to Obsidian and Porcelain. However, availability of these colors might vary across different storage tiers.
• The Pixel 9 Pro Fold listings only show two colors: the muted black and off-white shades of Obsidian and Porcelain.

Google’s launch event is scheduled for August 13th, just ten months after the previous year’s launch. All four Pixel 9 models are expected to be unveiled. Google is also likely to highlight its approach to AI on smartphones, continuing the momentum from last year’s launch that spurred the current rush towards AI. Launching earlier in the second half of the year positions Google to define the AI marketplace effectively.
